Okay, we've all experienced this, or at least, I hope I'm not the only one. We all have our friends, people who are easy to love because we have so much in common, because, for one reason or another, we just flat out like them.
But what about the people we don't like? The people who annoy us? Or the people who rub us the wrong way? What about those people we find not so easy to love? What's to be done about that? We are called to love the unlovely, are we not? So how do we do that? How do we love people even when we don't want to? How do we love people when it's hard?
I've found myself thinking about this a lot the past couple days, and today, my pastor was talking about giving all of ourselves to Jesus, not holding anything back. And I came to this realization: what would happen if I asked Jesus to show me these people through his eyes?
What if I made a point of loving people the way Jesus loves them? What does God see when he looks at them? How would I feel about these people if I saw their hurts? their hearts? their souls? How would I feel about them if I understood them as people? the things that make them tick? What if, even just for a moment I saw them the way Jesus does?
So, while my church lifts up Jesus Christ for the year of 2013, my goal is to allow Jesus to show me people through his eyes, and allow me to love them the way that He does.
